The economic class of the Canadian immigration program is meant to attract some categories of applicants, including skilled workers whose occupations are in high demand in Canada, businessmen and women who can set up businesses in Canada and generate employments, and foreign investors who can inject foreign capital into the Canadian economy and boost development.
Generally, foreign nationals are selected under this program based on their potential ability to become economically established in Canada.
Starting from January 2015, a new case management system was introduced to process the following programs under the economic class stream: the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), the Federal Skilled Trade (FST), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Start-Up visa, the Business Class, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and the Self-Employed category.
